Mozzy, terriers

Ooh, it's been a while, half term then birthdays and now Christmas. It all gets too busy.

Have done a bit more to Mozzy

And I've started a commission on a couple of terriers...

I hope to finish these today so will post the final article tomorrow.

Hickstead Grey

Started the under painting for a lovely grey I took photo's of in the warm up arena at Hickstead during the summer...

I might just keep the background white on this one...

DIY Mahl stick...

Mahl sticks, why so expensive?

So, after giving up trying to find an affordable one or one that was big enough I decided to make one...(well, two actually).

Here they are:

Good Eh?
Here's how I made them...

Ingredients:
  • Timber offcuts in shed
  • Husbands pingpong balls, (he won't notice until spring)
  • Bit of pipe insulation, (anything soft would do, eg. sponge)
  • Ductape
  • Chamois leather, (husband won't notice until he cleans car!)
  • Leather laces I found round the house, (string or elastic band would do)
So...first step, cut a hole in the pingpong ball and stick it on your sawn to length timber...

Then take the pipe insulation and tape it round the ball...

Then tape it securely to the stick...

Next cover it with the chamois leather and secure, cutting any loose bits...

Ta da......

Quite pleased with that.

Oscar, (Ozzy)

Oscar, (Ozzy) is now all finished....

He will be a gift to a friend from the lady who commissioned him...I hope she is pleased.

Tuesday 15 October 2013

Oscar, (Ozzy)

Here's Ozzy with his head done, unfortunately he is no longer with us and in the only good photo the owners had he was badly in need of a clip, (so you couldn't see his eyes). I gave him a bit of a haircut...

Mozzy

Finished the underpainting for Mozzy yesterday so thought I would post it....

Hunting scenes and Oscar

Just done a little sketch of a pastel I want to do, (when I have time) wasn't sure that the lack of background was a good thing but I like it....

It's from a photo I took of the bloodhounds at the Heathfield show last year.

I've also started a commission of a miniature schnauzer called Oscar...

I hope to post the finished drawing in a few days.

I'm very pleased with this one, (so was the customer).

Getting ready for winter....

I've spent the last few weekends getting ready for winter by insulating the studio.

As you can see it now looks like the inside of the space shuttle bay...

Hopefully it will be a bit warmer this winter.

Emily and Hovis

Some more oil paintings I'm working on, albeit slowly as there's not a lot done during the summer holidays, (I have two lovely distracting children!)

First Emily, just the sketch with background....

Rough tones and blocks of colour.

This is Hovis, I don't like the background, think it will have to be re-done.

Charcoal drawings

A couple of charcoal drawings of photos I took at the Heathfield show....

First Post...

I have decided to start a blog as a diary of how my recent, (or past) projects come about.

We are starting with Woody, an oil portrait I finished a couple of weeks ago...

I think this is the first picture I took of him, as you can see the basic sketch is there along with the background and his eyes.

Now the basic tones of the face are there, except for the nose.

We have a nose...(awful photo, sorry).

Finishing off.

and the final Portrait:
